Weibern
The Weibern Tuff Museum is a small local history museum in the former listed railroad station in the Eifel municipality of Weibern. Bring 1 1/2 to 2 hours with you and you will learn a lot about tuff, volcanism, the Brohl valley and the village of Weibern. Tuff has been quarried in Weibern since Roman times. You will see an original stonemason's hut with the stonemasons' tools. Many pictures document the extraction and work on the tuff, including a floor-to-ceiling picture of a quarry. You can experience the various quarrying methods on a lovingly crafted quarry model. Your children will not miss out either. Three crane models invite you to lift small chunks of tuff just like in a quarry. You will learn the difference between tuff from different quarries and extraction areas. A model of the Brohl Valley with the Brohl Valley Railway will also delight you and your children. You can also find out about the entire spectrum of minerals found in volcanic eruptions in the unique stone collection before moving on to the local history section. Here you can find out about publications about Weibern, our partnership with Weibern in Upper Austria or view works by local artists. Some historical finds from Roman times back to Celtic times await you in other display cases. The history of the French gas balloon "La ville de Paris" or an "almost catastrophe" at the end of the Second World War should not be neglected either.
