St. Johannes Evangelist
Thür
The Catholic parish church of St. Johannes Evangelist was built in 1867/68 by August Rincklage and Caspar Clemens Pickel according to plans drawn up in 1855 by the Cologne cathedral builder Friedrich von Schmidt.
It is a basalt rubble basilica in the form of doctrinal neo-Gothic (Dehio, Rhineland-Palatinate, 1984, p. 1017).
On May 6, 1867, the foundation stone was laid by Dechant Stadelmayer from Mayen.
The tower of the old church, built in the Romanesque style, was preserved, but it was only raised to match the new church.
